The village of Bedar on the Costa Almeria is set high in the beautiful Sierra de los Filabres, about twenty-five minutes' drive from Mojacar Playa (beach).  It is a fine example of a Spanish white village which grew up around the copper and lead mining industry.

Three airports serve the Costa Almeria.  Alicante is just over two hours north of Bedar, Murcia is about an hour and a half away and  Almeria is about forty- five minutes to the south.   Flybe, Ryanair and ThomsonFly  fly to these airports.  All the major car hire firms are represented at the airports.

A car is essential as there is no public transport to the village and parking is only a few metres away from the house in Plaza del Ermita.

The house sleeps a maximum of five people.   There are two spacious upstairs bedrooms, one double and one twin, with plenty of space on the landing for an additional bed.   Electric heating is supplied for extra warmth in the winter.  The main bathroom has a full-size bath with shower.
From the landing, an outside staircase leads to the roof terrace.

Calle Calvario 2 is a traditional Spanish house, over a hundred years old, with superb views over the village from its roof terrace.   The Sierra Cabrera, the Moorish hill town of Mojacar and the distant Mediterranean complete a spectacular panorama.

A wealth of leisure activities including horse-riding, golf, bird-watching, tennis, watersports, scuba-diving, lawn-bowls, fishing and ,of course, the beach are all within easy reach.  Directly from the house one can walk for miles in the mountains with routes to suit all levels of fitness.

As well as trips out to local villages, Bedar is well placed for longer excursions to Almeria, Granada or Murcia or even skiing in the Sierra Nevada.  To the south-east  is the desert-like terrain which includes Mini Hollywood where the Spaghetti Westerns were filmed.

Bedar has a local, Spanish mini-market, bakery, hardware shop, clinic, pharmacy, and hairdresser.  An outdoor public swimming pool is open in the summer months.
Within a few minutes' walk of the house are two local bars, El Paso and El Cortijo, and the Miramar restaurant, which serves good Spanish food both inside and on its terrace looking over the mountains.

There are good restaurants in many local villages and cuisine from every nationality on Mojacar Playa where all amenities are available - including an English supermarket if you should want one!
Several markets are held in the area.  In particular, the Saturday market in Vera and Sunday craft market in Mojacar town are well worth a visit.
